OCAD Supportive Associations


Have an idea for a new group?
New groups can be made in OCAD as long as you get permission from the OCAD board and you have enough people who want to join your group. Review the requirements and sign up your friends and classmates! Five members is the minimum requirement. There are no fees involved in registering in a group.

Student Groups 2010-2011

Aboriginal Student Association (ASA)
The Aboriginal Student Association (ASA) brings together Aboriginal, Native, Indigenous, Métis and Inuit students at OCAD U to  support Aboriginal  artists and designers. The group is dedicated to the involvement in community, arts and cultural events. The group will host lectures and coordinate group activities which emphasize sharing Indigenous knowledge of all forms, traditional and contemporary. The group meets a minimum of once monthly. Associate members (non-Aboriginal) are welcomed and encouraged.

Collectively Organized Student Movement (COSM)
A group to promote student rights and policy awareness among the student population.

COMIC Club
Founded on the fact that comic books are art and literature, this club seeks to promote, discuss, explore and create art. Superheroes, graphic novels, bande designee, newspaper strips, indie surreal horrors, manga and political cartoons are all welcomed.

Genesis
Genesis is a Korean Christian group affiliated with Youth with a Mission (YWAM) Toronto, their goal is to connect spiritually and artistically.  Through spiritual and practical activities, such as daily meditation, summer short-term mission, presentations and exhibitions, believers at OCAD U are encouraged to rise up for the truth and express it with passion.

Greening the Grange (GTG)
Greening the Grange is a group of students, faculty and staff that come together to promote sustainable practices in the Village by the Grange. Through research,  GTG aims to transform the practices of both community members and vendors.

I.B. Scene
A hip-hop focused student group aiming to support hip-hop culture by organizing DJing, MCing, as well as breakdancing events and workshops.

INTERNATIONALeyes
INTERNATIONALeyes invites  new and returning international students — and any other interested OCAD U students — wishing to network, share concerns, meet new friends and make meaningful global connections.

Korean Art Students Association (KASA)
The Korean Art Student Association (KASA) exists to promote a sense of community, enrich students’ lives, and create a comfortable campus for Korean students at OCAD U. All OCAD U students are allowed to become members of KASA, provided they are interested in learning more about Korean culture and traditions.
MAAD Teatime
MAAD Teatime is a civilized oasis in an ocean of work. Once a week, OCAD students decide  to have tea and cookies in the Material Art & Design department.

Mature Student Café
This informal drop-in, hosted monthly (September to November, January to March) by Campus Life, is a great way for the “older than average” students to connect, meet each other and share experiences. Light refreshments will be served.

Muslim Student Association (MSA)
The aim and purpose of MSA at OCAD University shall be to serve as a representative body of Muslims on campus.  All students are welcome to become members of the MSA or even if they are interested in learning about Muslim culture and tradition.

OCAD U Bike
Toronto has a very strong cycle culture and OCAD U Bike exists to provide education about urban cycling, organize group bike rides, touring trips and social gatherings, while supporting and building a cycling culture at OCAD University.

OCAD U Buddhist Group (OCADBG)
The OCADBG exists to teach interested OCAD University students about the Soka Gakkai International (SGI), the basics of Nichiren Buddhism and the SGI’s goals of peace, culture and education.

OCAD U Christian Fellowship (OCF)
The OCF cultivates spiritual growth and fosters community through prayer meetings, community meals and art discussion groups. An affiliation with the Inter-Varsity Christian Fellowship of Canada allows members to participate in events such as retreats, seminars and conferences.

OCAD U GAMA
OCAD U Games, Animé & Manga Association (OCAD GAMA) is the premier club for students who want to share their passion for animé, manga and gaming with like-minded people.
OCAD U Jewish Club
Affiliated with Hillel of Greater Toronto, the OCAD U Jewish Club is the “address” for Jewish student life on campus. Through exciting and creative programming, the OCAD U Jewish Club promotes Jewish identity, student leadership, and religious and political diversity in a dynamic and inclusive environment for all OCAD U students.

OCAD U Zine Collective
The Zine Collective is made up of students who are interested in self-publishing through the medium of zines.

OCAD U Community Outreach Group
The Community Outreach group at OCAD University is a committed group  for important issues affecting our society today. They are actively engaged in their  local community through volunteerism, community service, raising awareness and organizing fundraisers, all of which can make a positive impact on the lives of the less fortunate.

OCAD U Student Press
OCAD U Student Press serves as a platform for idea sharing, research and communication among the OCAD U community. They publish one major book every year, showcasing groundbreaking academic research and projects done by the most promising students in the fields of art and design. Their publications are written, directed and designed by students, for students, with the support of students.

Onyx Society at OCAD U (OSO)
Rooted in the culture of the African Diaspora, the Onyx Society aims to promote a sense of community within the larger OCAD University environment, as well as creating a resource where students may network with those in other disciplines at the university. The Onyx Society welcomes all students, providing they are open to explore the depths of black culture.

PROUD at OCAD University
Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Queer, Transgendered/Transsexual, Intersexed, Gender-queer, 2-Spirited, and Questioning. This is a group to discuss and not feel alone in OCADU!

REBAR
REBAR (Research Lab on Urban Landscapes and Architecture) is a collective of student designers interested in understanding and participating in Toronto’s urban landscapes through critical art and design intervention and collaboration.

Sketchbook Group
A group dedicated to utilizing a sketchbook as an essential tool for every OCAD U student who is willing to participate and exercise in the pursuit to establish the sketchbook as an awesome addition to your portfolio.

Taiwanese OCAD U Student Association (TOSA)
TOSA promotes Taiwanese culture and enhances the OCAD U experience for Taiwanese students. All OCAD U students are eligible to become members of TOSAA, provided they are interested in learning more about Taiwanese culture and tradition and are interested in networking towards an enhanced University experience.

The Free Association: OCAD U Improv
Improv (improvisational theatre) is a great way to make friends, boost confidence and get creative in a positive and energetic environment!

Throwing Club
Throwing Club will be doing weekly sessions where we teach anyone with Ceramic studio access how to throw. Students from all departments welcome.

Vocal OCAD U (VOCAD)
A group that allows students to express themselves through vocal and musical means.
